Cathode rays are streams of electrons that are observed in vacuum tubes. Cathode rays are negatively charged particles emitted from a negative electrode inside a vacuum tube.
They travel in straight lines from the cathode to a positive electrode. They were first discovered in the 19th century during experiments with discharge tubes known as cathode ray tubes(CRT).
Cathode rays were results of discovery of an electron by J.J. Thomson in 1897.They are the basis of old television screens, oscilloscopes, and CRT monitors.
